Wilderness Treatment Center is a 60 day inpatient chemical dependency treatment facility for adolescents / young men between the ages of 14 and 24. It combines a conventional 30 day inpatient stay with a 16-21 day wilderness expedition. As always, each of the expeditions is staffed by one of the counselors and a wilderness instructor for the duration of the trip. The two components and length of stay allow Wilderness Treatment Center graduates to be farther in the recovery process than those leaving a 28 day program. Since its inception in 1983, Wilderness Treatment Center has successfully treated young men from the world over. The Treatment Center's primary goal is to introduce the adolescents to a way of life free from drugs and alcohol with an increased self-esteem and a feeling of empowerment. Rugged and challenging activities such as backpacking, cross country skiing, rappelling, ranch work, and a wilderness expedition, offer an adventuresome and disciplined setting that can lead to effective change. Living with a chemical dependent adolescent or young adult, is not easy. His chemical use and behavior affects the whole family. Often, parents have lost all sense of trust and hope.
Young people are using a larger variety of drugs then ever before. These may include Marijuana (pot, cannabis), Alcohol, Heroine, Oxycontin, Methamphetamine (crystal, crank), Cocaine, Ecstasy, Valium, Xanax, LSD, Mushrooms and the list goes on. But if one is an addict they all have the same goal; to get sober/straight.
Chemical Dependency is defined as a primary, progressive and fatal illness. Without treatment it will progress. When distrust, anger, worry and fear have become part of daily living, it is impossible to have a normal life. We believe we have the answer at Wilderness Treatment Center. As soon as a family schedules their son's admission, the family's healing begins. Often, drug problems are masked by anger, defiance, behavioral and emotional issues and other impulsive behaviors. Young people can be labeled ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant, Conduct Disordered, Depressed and Bi-Polar. And because most young people will not be honest about the extent of their use, even well meaning professionals can underestimate and not accurately assess the level of impact their drug/alcohol use is having.
Wilderness Treatment Center is located on a 4,000 acre cattle ranch in Northwest Montana. The setting is the perfect place for young men who often have trouble in the confines of a more conventional setting. Referrals come from Inpatient treatment centers, outpatient treatment centers, individual therapists, probation officers, and educational consultants. Wilderness Treatment Center uses these resources to better assist the individual.
Families are informed of treatment planning and progress on a weekly basis. Our 4 &1/2 day family program allows for the reconstruction of family wholeness and health. The counselors work closely with family members throughout the course of treatment to ensure the best possible outcome. Individuals are medically supervised. Our experienced and licensed addiction counselors utilize the 12 Steps and other therapeutic philosophies to assist these young men. Days are filled with individual and group therapy, informational videos, and lectures, not only at the ranch, but also in the wilderness.
From it's beginning, Wilderness Treatment Center has proven itself as a unique, safe and successful treatment program, approved and accepted by many major medical policies. All medical costs and transportation costs to Kalispell, Montana and home again are the responsibility of the participant and his family. Chemical dependency is a devastating and destructive disease and those who suffer from it and their families are entitled to the same loving care and treatment as those suffering from any other disease. Our goal is to have individuals and their families know a new beginning, a new freedom and happiness... References are available upon request
